Description
St Ives, the holiday resort in Cornwall, England, is distinguished in several ways: it has not only been recognised as Best UK Seaside Town on more than one occasion but also been voted as the most favoured place in the country to live by British citizens.
It has been well-known as a centre for artists' endeavours, especially the sculptor Barbara Hepworth and the potter Bernard Leach. There is a branch of the Tate Gallery there known as the Tate St Ives. A well-known nursery rhyme begins "As I was going to St Ives, I met a man with seven wives...", though this could refer to other places of that name.
