Description
This hummingbird hawk-moth came into my garden in the north of England one summer - it is usually familiar with warmer climates in the northern hemisphere, generally in the Old World, though sometimes in North America. It rarely survives the winter, though, oddly one appeared in the same spot the following year, yet never since then. It is feeding on the buddleia (butterfly) bush, for which it 'conveniently' has a suitably long proboscis to reach the nectar. Its stillness as it hovers is mesmerising, as are its human-like eyes.
