Description
This representation of the Crucifixion of Christ is based on the broken slab of a carving of this figure, dating from the eighth century. This was found in the eighteenth century during the demolition of an early Christian chapel on the tiny island called the Calf of Man, just off the coast of the Isle of Man (or Mann) which is in the middle of the Irish Sea.
The knotwork at the centre of the figure is typical of the carving of such ancient crosses which date from that period on Mann, of which there are a considerable number. The famous Irish hymn 'Be thou my Vision...' dates from the same period. and reflects the common Celtic ancestry and culture shared by many Manx people with Irish (as well as Scottish) peoples, also being proven by DNA research, which I have found to be true for myself.
A WHITE OR OTHER COLOURED BORDER MAY BE ADDED TO GREETINGS CARDS.
