Description
As may be seen, this is the frontispiece of the hardback copy (second edition) of the book 'Manx Fairy Tales' written by Sophia Morrison, published in 1929, the original being produced in 1901. To reassure the reader, copyright for this volume expired in 1983.) It regards fairy stories set in the Isle of Man, the island in the centre of the British Isles. While the illustrations are originally in black and white, I thought of water-colouring them for my own pleasure. Although the stories are not now remembered the artist was the internationally renowned artist and metalwork designer, Archibald Knox, whose work is now to be found in galleries around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He aslo worked for the esteemed London store of Liberty's in London. I would encourage the reader to follow his work. I am proud to say that my own indirect association with him is that much of his work was designed when he lived in my own home village of Sulby on the island.
