One gable of the magnificently decorated Basilica of St Mark in Venice is shown. It is an acretion of various styles including Byzantine and Gothic. The Basilica is said to contain the relics of St Mark himself, these having been stolen from Alexandria in 828 AD. One side of the Doges' Palace is on the right. A sculpture of Eve is on the corner.

I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England.
