I have chosen this Celtic blessing to accompany the photograph which I took of The Plough as we call it in England (The Big Dipper) while leaning against the frame of our back door, the words seeming very appropriate as well as the atmosphere. It was, in fact, at the stroke of midnight one recent Midsummer's Night in the north of Lancashire where we live. I had not thought of the possibility of such an image, but in my eagerness to capture it at this moment, after seeing the glory of the heavens as midnight approach, I decided to proceed without a tripod.
I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England. My Christian faith underlies what I do in art as in the rest of my life. I am a retired clinical psychologist and am married with children and grandchildren.
