The biblical text from the Psalms here, giving encouragement to have strength from God when seeking guidance, is set against an image of Lancaster Castle in Lancashire, UK, and the tower of the adjacent Priory Church, the chief church of the city. The castle, as 'fortress'; stood defending the city from Roman times against marauding Scots and Picts.
I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England.
