Small Pearl Bordered Fritillary Canvas Print

The small pearl bordered, or silver-bordered, fritillary is one of the most beautiful butterflies found in my home surrounding area. I was able to capture this with my camera only by wading through a marsh early one morning and finding a few: this one - appropriately - on the marsh thistle, back-lit by the sun rising over a hill.

I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England.
