This most beautiful of creatures can be found in the mundane situation of one's own back garden, in our case in England, gorging on nectar from the buddleia bush.It is found in Europe as a whole and Asia. It is of the Nymphalidae family and one of the largest to be found in the British Isles.

About Nigel Radcliffe
I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England.
