This little Greek Orthodox church of Ayios Elias sits on an unusual outcrop of rock on the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean Sea. It overlooks the resort of Protaras and its location reminds me of the words of Jesus when he said to Peter (whose name itself mean 'rock'): "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church..." (Matthew 16,18)
About Nigel Radcliffe
I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England.
