What could be simpler. A wild flower against against a stone wall. But I hope I have captured something of the beauty of that colour, the furry leaves and rough hewn stones with the precision of their building to assemble an image highlighted by the morning sun.
Under its scientific name - digitalis - it is well-known as having been familiar in the treatment of heart conditions under controlled dosages especially heart failure, it only being approved by the FDA in 1998 but its use is now declining. The whole plant is toxic and fatalities have been known.
I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England.
