I have designed this Celtic Crucifixion - based on a broken slab carving of this figure from the eighth century and rediscovered in the eighteenth century on the tiny islet called the Calf of Man, off the coast of the Isle of Man in the British Isles. It incorporates knotwork, typical of the period as well as the triquetra, the threefold knot above the feet of Christ, a symbol of the Trinity still popular among Christians today.
In the colouring of the design, I have made some reference to eighth and ninth century illustrated manuscripts like the Book of Kells and the Lindisfarne Gosples.

I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England.
