'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not overcome it.' Thus begins the gospel of Saint John in what is called the New Testament by Christians and The Word is identified as Jesus Christ ('The word became flesh and dwelt among us'): God the Creator as well as suffering servant coming into the world.
