This view is of the Sulby Reservoir near the place of my childhhood home, in the Isle of Man, in the centre of the British Isles. It was very much a nostalgic experience to start painting it and I intended to continue the detail, but felt that arriving at this point was sufficient to give the essence of the place.The heather growing abundantly on the mountainside adds to the raw beauty of the landscape.
I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England. My Christian faith underlies what I do in art as in the rest of my life. I am a retired clinical psychologist and am married with children and grandchildren.
