Description
This courtyard is a focal point of Skipton Castle, one of the best preserved mediaevil [or medieval] castles in England, being found in the northern county of Yorkshire. It is a tranquil spot and dates from the Tudor period (sixteenth century) although parts of the castle date back to Norman times (eleventh century.) Edward II granted the castle to the Clifford family who held it for 300 years. Lady Anne Clifford, the last of the family to own it, planted this yew tree in 1645. The courtyard is called the Conduit Court as the water supply was piped into the castle to this spot.
