Description
Maughold Church is a quintessential church of the Isle of Man, the island in the middle of the Irish Sea, at the centre of the Birtish Isles. It is set in a small village on the eastern side of the island near the sea and is home to a precious set of ancient stone Manx crosses, some of which are from as early as the seventh century. It is backed here by North Barrule, of the ridge of mountains in the centre of the island. It is also the burial place of a variety of the famous and infamous from Manx history: Sir Hall Caine, once a famous Victorian novelist, and also Captain Hugh Crow, a slave trader who operated out of Liverpool. The daffodils place the image firmly in the present - the season of spring.
