Artist's Description
The sun rises behind Elizabeth Castle - named after Elizabeth I - at St Helier, the capital of the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands, which are a Crown Dependency of the United Kingdom of which the Queen is head but they do not form part of it (work that one out). They lie off the coast of Normandy, France and are much closer to France than England. This made them much more vulnerable during the Second World War and in fact Jersey's neighbour, Guernsey, was annexed by Germany at that time.
About Nigel Radcliffe
I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England. My Christian faith underlies what I do in art as in the rest of my life. I am a retired clinical psychologist and am married with children and grandchildren.
