I love how you set this 2020 collage before...for this 2021 stage to follow...the mix of written, earthly and cosmic elements fragmenting into newness continues the genius theme from your earlier piece. BRILLIANT! THIS is truly thematic of the contest intention...BRILLIANT!

Nigel Radcliffe replied:

Thank you, Laurel. I am humbled by your comments!

Nigel Radcliffe replied:

Thanks, Lois. It gradually evolved in my mind.

Artist's Description

I have used here a text from a time-honoured version of the New Testament scripture in the Christian Bible - the first verse of the Gospel according to Saint John -against a collage background of an interpretation of the Big Bang [theory of the] creation of the Universe. While this is presented only in a metaphorical way, I have chosen to show it as a kind of solar explosion. While the general image is abstract in nature, some iconography may be found. 'The Word' is most often thought of in Christian theology as Jesus Christ in that he is thought to have the same essence as God the Father along with the Holy Spirit, who was there at the beginning of Creation. He said of himself :'I am the Way, the Truth and the Life', 'I am the Light of the World.'

This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England. My Christian faith underlies what I do in art as in the rest of my life. I am a retired clinical psychologist and am married with children and grandchildren. I have no formal artistic qualifications but am...
