Artist's Description

Hornby Castle is a landmark to be seen for miles around, especially coming along the road from the city of Lancaster (in the north of England) in the west. It is thought that it was originally built for the Neville family in the thirteenth century but it has had many alteration since then. It lies above the River Wenning, a tributary of the Lune which descends to Morecambe Bay.
Sea trout will spawn in the river and then the fish will go down to the sea to feed before returning to their natal river, leaping up with great perseverance - if one may use that term - over weirs to spawn again in their own place of birth.

I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England.
