Artist's Description

This fanciful interpretation of a natural wonder maybe gives a different slant on the extraordinary feature of basalt columns, famously found at the Giant's Causeway in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. They were formed 50 to 60 million years ago as a result of volcanic activity. The almost equally well-known columns at Fingal's Cave across the sea at the Scottish island of Staffa are part of the same lava flow.

Nigel Radcliffe

I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England. My Christian faith underlies what I do in art as in the rest of my life. I am a retired clinical psychologist and am married with children and grandchildren.
