Artist's Description
This view of the Crook o' Lune, near my Caton home, not far from Lancaster ('Lune-chester') in the north west of England, shows a part of a sharp curve in the river from which it derives its name. The river bank forms part of the River Lune Millennium Park which stretches along the route of the old railway line and now provides walking and cycling access and rural sculpture as well as picnicing sites. In the distance is the peak of Ingleborough which was a sight uplifting to the spirit as I drove home from work for more than 30 years. Turner painted this scene from a higher viewpoint, one of the few recognisable similarities being the distant view of Hornby Castle on the left. Yes, the fisherman was there as I attempted to recreate the evening tranqullity.

I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England. My Christian faith underlies what I do in art as in the rest of my life. I am a retired clinical psychologist and am married with children and grandchildren.
