Arnside is a small and tranquil village at the head of the estuary of the River Kent which runs into Morecambe Bay in the north of England. It is a quiet retreat for residents and those taking a relaxed outing along the short promenade with its boutique shops. There is a railway viaduct which runs across the water to Barrow-in-Furness and then round to Carlisle on the border with Scotland.
I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England.
