Artist's Description

This title is, in fact, a fanciful misnomer as it is my own church, surrounded by houses, at the highest point in the parish of Caton-with-Littledale in north Lancashire, England, against a background of a wood across a river. The church is largely Victorian but the tower is probably from the 13th century. The greenery might even legitimately be called a forest, it having been included within the boundaries of the Forest of Bowland a few years ago.

Nigel Radcliffe

I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England. My Christian faith underlies what I do in art as in the rest of my life. I am a retired clinical psychologist and am married with children and grandchildren.
