Artist's Description

This classic pre-war front page of the British magazine 'The Boy's Own Paper' typifies the sentiments of bravery, courage in the face of an enemy and looking up to heroes. This is an original copy of 1938, ie. not long before the start of the Second World War. I believe the planes to be Gloucester Gladiators but defer to any experts. The crew appear to be dropping propaganda leaflets.

I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England. My Christian faith underlies what I do in art as in the rest of my life. I am a retired clinical psychologist and am married with children and grandchildren.
