Description
The English Civil War (1642-1651) was fought between the Parliamentarians and Royalist supporters of Charles the First over the nature of rule of the nation, leading to the execution of the king and the rule by Oliver Cromwell until the return to the throne of Charles the Second.
Here is a view of a reenactment of part of a battle - a skirmish, or minor incursion of Royalist Cavaliers with 'Roundhead' Parliamentarians at the ready with their pikes in the foreground and camp followers, who provided back-up services to the armies. Cannon smoke and even the the sturdy English oak tree coincide in adding to the authenticity of the scene.
