An early morning walk in summer in Littledale, in the north of Lancashire, England, brings me to a favourite spot where a barn is falling into dereliction but provides shelter for sheep or cattle from rain, snow, storms even the sun. Heather clothes the hillside.

I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. This has no doubt been influenced by the fact that I have travelled through Europe and elsewhere in the past, but I have come to look for inspiration nearer to my home in recent years in a beautiful part of the north of England.
